A breath of fresh air!! Not your typical boring tech book!! Apr 06, 2007

Great book, very informative. the author of this book takes the time to explain in simple easy to understand terms, how the components that make up your engine work and how to properly make performance mods successful. The way this book is written is differnet from most of the performance books I have read. As I read the book, I almost felt like I was having a conversation with the author in person! If I had this book twenty years ago, I could have saved a ton of money over the years. About the only negative thing I can say about the book is that some of the pictures are not of the best resolution, but they still get the message across of what the author is trying to point out. The bottom line is, the book was enjoyable to read and I learned a lot of new things about how motors work and how to modify them to make more power and save money at the same time. This book is well worth its cost!

I've been riding and wrenching on HDs for over twenty years and I still found this book useful. It confirmed a lot of opinions I had on building a "street" motor and it gave me new information in other areas. I found that the chapters on camshafts, intake, and exhaust were some of the best I've read and expanded my knowledge of these areas.
If you are into HD motors, you should have this on your bookshelf.

Excellent book, worth the price Jan 14, 2008

Bill Rooks's book is a great resource for anyone who works on Harley Davidsons or would like to. As an amature mechanic, I learned a lot from this book. Top end and head work are covered extensively, as well as carburetor selection and tuning. Rook stresses the importance of designing a total package for achieving specific performance goals rather than simply bolting on expensive parts. Rook's careful, simple, yet detailed descriptive writing style makes sense, and will allow anyone with a basic understanding of internal combustion engines to grow in their knowledge and tackle the project or modifying a stock Harley Davidson for performance gains. I highly reccomend this book.

Capt. Rook has provided us with the best possible combination of both worlds. His book explains not just how to improve the torque curve of your bike, but just where the new torque comes from, and why any particular group of parts and modifications works (or doesn't work). The sections dealing with make them yourself tools will pay for the book the 1st time you use it. And the money you save on NOT buying parts that do not perform as advertised could pay for turning your bike into a Torque Monster. Bill has written this book as a shop guide and as a conversation with someone who is interested in getting the most out of your bike. If you are even remotely interested in understanding V-Twin performance and working on your own bike, then you need to have this book next to you.
